A smooth move-in experience for your team is critical when looking to adopt a new tool for your team's tech stack.

Gather town and SoWork definitely differ in the way they onboard new teams. SoWork's onboarding experience is a nice mixture of exploring on your own -and finding nicely laid out tutorials along the way, but also having the structure of a checklist of things to complete, such as inviting a teammate, creating your avatar, using the Mapmaker feature, and more.

They also have the guidance of Sophia Bot - their in-app, AI Office Assistant. When new teammates land in a SoWork office, they're greeted by their own Sophia Bot, creating a sleek, video-game-like experience. You also get a vast Help Center with all of the details you need to feel confident. And, if you have any questions, you can always reach out to their customer support team via their live chat.

In gather town, their first experience tutorial guides you through the basic functionality of the app, but doesn't get down to specifics. So, the main support here is their Help Center. Here, you'll find onboarding tips and recommended ways to get started with your team, such as an office tour, decorating your desk, and filling out your profile. In-app, they offer subtle hints on where to place your logo and prompt you to embed your own documents. Otherwise, gather town recommends that each team select someone to read through their Help Center and be the main contact person for their team's troubleshooting.

Overall, SoWork comes out as the clear winner in this area as they have a defined and well articulated onboarding experience for new users. Gather town's approach is more hands off, and requires more leg-work on the part of your team in getting folks comfortable with the new tool.
